More Than Toys... A World of Possibilities.

Be Strong Enough to Be Gentle

A remembrance of Peter Cullen, 1941–2026

There are voices you hear as a kid that never really leave you. For me, Peter Cullen’s Optimus Prime is one of them.

Optimus was powerful, but what stayed with me was never just the strength. It was the way that strength was used: to protect, to lead, to sacrifice, and to care.

Peter once explained that the character was shaped by advice from his older brother Larry: be a real hero, be strong enough to be gentle. That idea became part of Optimus Prime’s heart, and it became something generations of fans carried with them.

Peter gave Optimus Prime a voice. But for so many of us, he also gave that voice a soul.

This issue’s mission: find a Transformer in your collection, or in the wild, that makes you stop and remember exactly where you were when that version of the character first mattered to you.

Official Corner Rule: Be strong enough to be gentle. Till all are one.

Collectors can preserve condition however they choose. But nobody at the Chronicle will judge you for taking the robot off the shelf and making the transformation noises yourself.

The Collector’s Corner

Transformers began as a Hasbro and Takara toy line in 1984 and grew into animation, comics, games, films, and generations of collections. For collectors, the fun is in the transformation itself: engineering, character, nostalgia, display, and that unmistakable click when everything finally locks into place.

More Than Meets the Eye

A Transformers shelf can tell a story without saying a word. One figure may be a childhood survivor with worn stickers and loose joints. Another may be a modern Studio Series release with engineering nobody imagined in 1984. Neither one has to be “better” to matter.

At Connor’s Corner, that is the point of collecting: find the pieces that mean something to you. Display them. Transform them. Share the stories behind them. And yes, occasionally spend twenty minutes trying to remember which panel folds first.

Bonus points are imaginary. Bragging rights are eternal.

Builder’s Corner: Transformation Is Engineering

Every transforming toy is a little mechanical puzzle. Hinges, pivots, tabs, clearances, and locking points have to cooperate while two completely different forms share the same parts.

The next time you transform one, slow down and look at what the designers actually did. Which piece carries load? Which tab controls alignment? Which panel hides another function?

Sometimes the cleverest solution is also the simplest one.

Newsroom Incident Report

At approximately 9:14 this morning, Brick announced that he had solved a major newsroom emergency.

“I found my crayons,” he reported.

The crayons were in his hand.

The Chronicle has confirmed the crayons are safe. No further comment is expected.

Brick’s Cybertron Weather

Today: Cybertronian.
Tomorrow: Also Cybertronian.
Weather: Still outside.

From the Editor’s Desk

The Chronicle usually has room for absurdity, questionable weather reporting, and whatever Brick has done to office supplies. It still does.

But some stories deserve a quiet center.

Peter Cullen’s work became part of countless childhoods and remained there as those kids became adults, parents, collectors, creators, and kids-at-heart. The lesson Connor chose for this page is a good one to carry beyond any fandom: strength and gentleness do not oppose one another.

They can be the same thing.

Fact Check

Peter Cullen died August 26, 2026, at age 85. He first voiced Optimus Prime in the 1984 animated Transformers series. His family asked that his legacy be honored through compassion, integrity, and loyalty, while remembering the lesson “be strong enough to be gentle.”
